A repeat blockage is a reason to investigate the cause, not simply repeat the same promise. Oklahoma Drain Clear editorialReviewed 3 November 20264 min read[Plain-text version](/guides/drain-keeps-clogging-after-snaking/index.md) ## The short answer Record which drain blocks, how often and how long flow stays normal after clearing. Include the date and method of earlier work if known. A repeat at one fixture is a different pattern from a whole-home backup. ## Clearing, cleaning or looking inside? Compare what each tool does. Select a card to highlight the question to ask; the method descriptions stay visible. ### Snaking / cabling Acts mechanically on an obstruction. Compare Snaking / cabling ↗Ask which access point is suitable and whether flow was fully restored. ### Hydro jetting Uses water to clean suitable pipework. Compare Hydro jetting ↗Ask how pipe condition and the obstruction affect method selection. ### Camera inspection Records the visible condition of a line. Compare Camera inspection ↗Ask for the location and recording behind a recurring-blockage recommendation. Ask which access point is suitable and whether flow was fully restored. Educational comparison. A professional chooses a method after assessing access, obstruction and pipe condition. ## Ask what was actually removed A provider should explain whether it found a local obstruction, buildup or evidence farther along the connection. Ask what remains uncertain. Do not assume roots or pipe failure merely because the house is old. ## Use inspection when it can answer a question A camera may help document the line after access and visibility are suitable. Ask for the location of any finding, what the view showed and how it supports the recommendation. Cleaning and structural repair are separate decisions. ## Make prevention specific Keep grease and wipes out of the system, use suitable strainers and follow the provider’s advice for the finding. Prevention cannot fix an existing structural defect; an inspection cannot substitute for removing a blockage. ## The snake did not work, or flow returned briefly Tell the provider whether the cable met resistance, whether any material was retrieved and how long drainage improved. A tool can pass through a restriction without fully clearing it. Recurrence can also involve material left behind, roots or a pipe defect. Do not conclude that hydro jetting or replacement is automatically necessary; request an explanation tied to the line condition. ## At a glance SituationNext stepKeep in mind Same fixture, short-lived reliefRequest a cause-based explanation.Kitchen or bathroom branch Several fixtures, repeat backupsAsk about line assessment and evidence.Main line Observed roots or damageDiscuss entry point and repair options.Inspection-led follow-up ## Related service [Sewer Camera Inspection →](/services/sewer-camera-inspection/) [Find local utility and drain guidance for your city →](/coverage/) ## Sources & reading notes [Why sanitary sewers overflow](https://www.epa.gov/npdes/sanitary-sewer-overflow-sso-frequent-questions) [Edmond fats, oils and grease guidance](https://www.edmondok.gov/1118/Fats-Oils-Grease) General homeowner orientation.
